Much like Switzerland itself, most Swiss companies maintained neutrality during WWII—with the notable exception of Rolex. In fact, company founder Hans Wilsdorf personally oversaw a program in which Allied prisoners of war—their watches confiscated when captured—could write to Rolex and request a wristwatch, hence the P.O.W. moniker. These watches would be sent to Allied troops entirely on the honor system, with no payment required until after the war. A remarkable story behind a remarkable watch worn by remarkable people.
